Please Help Us Bring Lifesaving Health Care to Senegal

Like other developing countries, Senegal faces many challenges.

But one of the most crushing issues is a critical lack of health care.

You see, in Senegal, getting health care is especially difficult. Government hospitals are far from most rural villages. The entire country has about 800 doctors, most of them in the capital city of Dakar.

These obstacles mean infants are sick and dying of preventable diseases. Women are dying in childbirth. And so many people suffer from malaria, waterborne ailments and pneumonia — all preventable and curable — but they have no access to health care. Our help is desperately needed.

And now we will be able to offer that help — through one of the most important programs ChildFund has ever undertaken. But we need your support.

ChildFund has been awarded a $40 million grant over five years — the largest in our entire history — by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). With this grant comes one condition: We are required to raise $472,254.61 this year.

With your support, we’ll be able to build on and expand the work we’ve been doing in Senegal since 1985, improving family and community health by targeting areas and practices that have a crucial impact on public health. This amazing grant will help us to reach our goal of establishing 2,151 health huts and 1,717 outreach sites.

In partnership with USAID and other key community development organizations, we’ll also work to develop a national community health policy. By the end of the five-year plan, we will have served more than 9 million Senegalese in 71 districts.
