Elecia is part of a family of seven from a rural community in Dominica. Life continues to be a struggle for this family. They live in an overcrowded concrete house which lacks the basic water connection. Elecia's father has deserted her so her mother was forced to travel to the capital in search of employment. During the day, she is being cared for by her grandmother. Elecia has been described as an amicable and outgoing girl. Singing nursery rhymes, dancing and playing ball games are just a few of the activities she does on a daily basis. She enjoys local fruits and chocolate tea. Elecia's parents sought assistance from the Childfund area based federation to help improve their standard of living. Through the federation, Elecia and his family will benefit from the skills training and developmental programs being undertaken in her community.
