More than a half million children and family members receive help from Christian Children’s Fund each year in Afghanistan, a war-torn country that President Barack Obama vows to help.
Laura Henderson, CCF’s director of the Washington, D.C., office, represented CCF at a White House event March 27 at which Obama announced his new strategy and increased financial resources for Afghanistan and Pakistan.
CCF was one of only a few no n-government organizations invited to the event because of its work for children in Afghanistan. CCF has worked in northern Afghanistan since 2001 under the name of ChildFund Afghanistan.
ChildFund Afghanistan currently assists about 533,000 children and family members through community development improvements including renovation and construction of schools, teacher and health worker training; and construction of health posts. ChildFund Afghanistan facilitates programs to create a protective environment for children and families through community-based approaches.
