I feel honored and very privileged to call myself a sponsor.
I have been blessed in so many ways throughout my lifetime and I wanted to give something back, somehow. When I saw an e-mail pop-up ad, for ChildFund International (then Christian Children’s Fund), I decided that this is what I wanted to do.
I immediately went on the web site and began investigating for information about this organization. What I found inspired me to start the process of sponsoring a child. Even though I could have given back to life in so many ways, I chose this way and have never regretted it one day.
I have only been a sponsor for about one year, but what a year it has been. I have written my child several times and have received six letters from her to date. I think this is great, considering my child is only six years old. She writes and thanks me for being her sponsor.
If I send her a card or small item, she is so grateful that she writes about it in the very next letter. I keep all of her letters and will treasure them forever.
When I started the process of sponsorship, the picture posted of her just drew me to her, and I knew that this was the child that I was supposed to sponsor.
I am so grateful to ChildFund for giving me the opportunity to do something worthwhile for my sponsored child and her family.
What I said previously about being blessed is true, but that doesn't mean that I have not known unhappy and sorrowful times. These are the times that God and my family have been there for me and helped me to keep looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Keeping this in mind has allowed me to stay upbeat and happy, and move on to bigger and, hopefully, better things in my life.
Thank you for allowing me to share my story. Hopefully, someone else will benefit from my words and know that things happen for a reason, although we may never know what that is.
Knowing this has allowed me to have peace surrounding my life, and much greater faith that things will change no matter what.
