“Follow us on Twitter, help change a child’s life.” That was the simple message behind a campaign to give gifts from ChildFund International’s Gifts of Hope and Love catalog to four countries in Africa. For every 200 followers we received, a gift would be sent to where the need was the greatest. The gifts were made possible by a donor who went above their usual giving amount.
The campaign coincided with our name change and was intended to raise awareness of the work that we do under the ChildFund name and to connect with potential new supporters.
The Twitter campaign was a simple means to achieve this.
By the end of the campaign, we had more than 2,200 followers, which translated into 11 gifts: two sets of chickens for a school in The Gambia; three goats for families in Zambia; three sets of 15 grafted mango trees to be planted in Kenya; and three sets of vegetable seeds for Ethiopia.
These donations are about much more than the actual item. Each item represents a livelihood for a family, income, responsibility, and, most importantly, an opportunity for a brighter future thanks to each of the followers.
Flip video cameras were sent to these countries so we could share with our followers how they’ve helped. We are accountable to our supporters, and the videos show everyone how they made a difference and how the funds were used.
So are you following us on Twitter yet? You can find us at www.twitter.com/ChildFund where we post regular updates about ChildFund, answer questions followers may have, retweet others’ posts on topics we find relevant and much more. This campaign is only the beginning of our conversation.
