Five Ways to Change the World With Your Tax Refund
Richmond, VA – April 11, 2012– The average tax refund for the 2011 tax year is $2,946. Have you ever considered giving a portion of your refund to change a child’s life? ChildFund has compiled a list of five things you can do to change the world with your tax refund.
Sponsor a child. For as little as $28 a month, you could change the life of a child living in one of the 30 countries ChildFund works. This amount provides clothing, clean water and educational opportunities.
Take a mission trip. There are many nonprofit organizations that offer mission trips to developing countries. Mission trips allow people to make a difference while experiencing different cultures.
Create a scholarship. Have you ever wanted to give back to your high school or college alma mater? Creating a scholarship is an easy and creative way to do so. Develop your guidelines, selection process and the dollar amount, and you’ve just single-handedly helped a deserving student continue his or her education.
Start a community garden. A community garden is a great way to foster beautiful and healthy communities. Whether you choose to grow flowers in an urban community or vegetables in the suburbs, community gardens are the perfect opportunity to get to know your neighbors, promote healthy living and preserve green space.
Fund an educational trip for your local Boys & Girls Club. Visiting a museum or a historic landmark are luxuries for some children. Find out how you can help support your local Boys & Girls Club expose children to cultural activities that broaden their view and enable them to dream big. Maybe you will become a mentor in the process.
