Electricity is available. Jose works as a mechanic and earns very low wages. The per capita family income is about US$ 35.00 per month. The family is Catholic and their native language is Portuguese. Amanda is lively and playful. She runs messages for her mom. She loves playing house, school, and with dolls. Amanda is considered to have good health. She attends a day care center maintained by the project where she receives a balanced diet and care, besides participating in recreational activities appropriate for her age. She participates in the project program where she and her family receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition and recreation (including medical and dental care, nutritional evaluation, medications, toy library, cultural activities, home visits, meetings, and talks).
