Wars, civil conflicts, and natural disasters create emergency situations that put already vulnerable children in even more danger. Our ChildAlert Emergency Fund helps ChildFund respond quickly in crisis situations to provide for the immediate needs of children and the long-term recovery of communities.
Recently, our ChildAlert Emergency Fund has provided resources to help thousands of children affected by the tsunami in Southeast Asia. We have also been helping the vast number of refugees who have fled from the Sudan for Chad and are trying to survive in sweltering desert camps along the border. And ChildFund has been there to help children in other emergencies in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Afghanistan, Guatemala, and India.

Gifts to our ChildAlert Emergency Fund support children both emotionally and physically. Where appropriate, ChildAlert funds are used to set up Child Centered Spaces. These are positive, peaceful, and nurturing environments where children who have experienced war or other emergencies first-hand can regain a sense of normalcy through activities that help them heal. These special areas provide non-formal education, secure places to play, and primary health services for children experiencing life-threatening situations.
ChildFund also helps reintegrate child soldiers and children associated with fighting forces in a number of countries, including Angola, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and Liberia.
Our goals are to reduce the risk of additional harm to children, to reunite families, and to provide aid for the physical hardships that come with the lack of food, shelter, clean water, and medical attention.
