Children often see things differently from adults, sometimes because of their shorter heights or because they’re often told what to do and where to go. In the PhotoVoice program, which ChildFund supports in Brazilian and Vietnamese communities where we work, children and youth have the opportunity to record what they see with cameras. For many, it’s their first time taking photos, and the skill opens a whole new world of artistic expression and increased respect from their peers and families.

At a local bookstore in Brazil, we recently celebrated the launch of a photography book filled with pictures taken by PhotoVoice participants. In attendance were youth, families, sponsors, professional photographers, local partner organization staff and regular clients of the bookstore — a diverse group of people. Take a moment to look at the young people’s photos; even if you don’t read Portuguese, you’ll get a glimpse of the communities where we work.

Also, below, we’ve included a slideshow of images from Vietnam and Brazil, pictures of and by the young photographers. Please enjoy!
