Share Sponsorship, See a Show
What do an American Idol winner, a GRAMMY-nominated husband-and-wife country music duo, a music festival, a Christian rock band and a Beatles cover band have in common?
The answer is ChildFund’s LIVE! concert series, where artists highlight child sponsorship during their performances. During intermission in many venues, volunteers help us spread the word further by sharing their experiences of sponsoring a child and helping sign up more sponsors.
It started in December 2011, with American Idol sensation David Archuleta, on his My Kind of Christmas tour. We knew the three-week tour would be a magical experience ... but we didn’t expect the magic to continue in quite the way it has.
In January 2012, David’s next project took him to the Philippines, where ChildFund has served children since 1954. He couldn’t pass up the chance to meet some of them in person. It’s hard to say who was more moved by the encounter — the children or David. He has since sponsored a child from Honduras, his mother’s native country.
Meanwhile, beginning in February, GRAMMY nominees Shawna and Keifer Thompson, also known as Thompson Square, became our second LIVE! act and began promoting child sponsorship to a whole new audience — country music lovers. The Thompsons now sponsor a child in Indonesia. They’ve also chosen ChildFund as their charity to receive a donation from CMT if they win a CMT music video award. The fans choose the winners of this awards show, so vote now! Winners will be announced June 6.
Our next LIVE! partner, Country Throwdown, is actually a partner with several faces: a multi–artist tour — or, more accurately, a roving festival — from May 18 through July 8 in 20 cities. The third annual Throwdown features headliner Gary Allan as well as up-and-comers Eric Paslay, Rose Falcon, Sunny Sweeney, Josh Thompson and Florida Georgia Line.
This summer brings two new audiences into the fold. Beatles fans will hear about ChildFund at performances by the Fab Four, touted by the L.A. Times as “the best Beatles show in the world.” And, reuniting for a 20th-anniversary tour, Christian rockers PFR will include ChildFund in their celebration by telling their audiences about child sponsorship.
We won’t need volunteers for either of these artists’ performances, but we will need you throughout the year for Thompson Square’s shows! To sign up, call 1-800-458-0555, or email us at questions@ChildFund.org. Meantime, check our LIVE! events page for performances near you — and to see who signs on with us next!
