Jose is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Leonardo and Georgia, and with a brother, in a small rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Water is carried from a dam. Leonardo works as a day laborer in agriculture when available and his low income is far from enough to meet basic needs. Jose is tranquil, affectionate and intelligent. He helps his mom by putting away items like toys and dishes. He likes playing in the company of other kids his age. He is very fond of birds. Jose is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public preschool where he is making good progress. He says that he will be a firefighter when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Jose and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
