Danainat or Namnan a miserable boy was born into an abjectly needy family who lacks opportunities in many aspects. His father and mother broke up, and he lives with his grandfather, grandmother, and mother. His family grows rice for home consumption and corn for sale, which is only the familys source of income. Their farming depends upon the forces of nature; if facing up against natural disaster, rain shortage, or flood, the rice would be damaged and insufficient for the family to eat all year round, and corn might not be saleable. During an off-farm season, his grandparents and mother would do every job they could find in the village or places nearby; despite of the hardwork, the income is still lacking. It is not easy for families to get by and this has thrown them into hardship.
