Miguel is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Maria, and with a sister, in a small rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Maria does some manicuring at home when available and the family receives a very small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Miguel is communicative, cheerful and affectionate. He likes playing ball and with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. Miguel is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Miguel and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
