A ChildFund staffer surveys the damage after an earthquake in Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Children in Crisis After Earthquake

The death toll is rising after a 6.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Indonesia’s Sulawesi island on Friday, January 15, leveling a hospital, destroying homes and triggering landslides across the region. Hundreds of people have been injured, thousands displaced, and children are terrified. Families are in shock as they grapple with the reality of losing their homes and livelihoods.

This disaster, coming only two years after a twin emergency of an earthquake and tsunami that devastated the same region, is further complicated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. ChildFund does not work in the affected area, so we can say with confidence that the children in our programs are safe. Even so, we are poised to support a strong local organization’s emergency response, with a particular focus on keeping children safe in the chaotic days, weeks and months ahead. And we can’t do it without your help.

Please give to our Emergency Fund today so that we can continue responding to this emergency and others, making sure children and families are as safe as possible when disaster strikes.
