When longtime wrestler Mick Foley is asked what he most enjoys about sponsoring children, he says, “Reading their letters and seeing the children grow up.” In spite of a busy schedule, Foley takes time to write to all seven children he sponsors through ChildFund. He shares his life experiences while learning a great deal from each of the children.

Since he began assisting children in 1992, Foley has visited a number of ChildFund programs in Mexico, the Philippines and Sierra Leone.  He has spent time with community members learning what families cope with every day, and has even met some of the children he now sponsors.

His travels afforded him a view of life he had not experienced before, and he learned that education is not available to all children. Deciding he wanted to help further, he committed proceeds from the sale of a book he wrote, “Tales from Wrescal Lane,” to build a school in the Philippines. One school turned into two, then another in Mexico, eventually leading to the construction of seven community schools in Sierra Leone.

Foley says of his commitment to education, “If we can help educate the next generation, we can do something to build a positive society.”
