Richmond, VA – Feb. 1, 2012– ChildFund International recently traveled across the Atlantic to deliver hundreds of new TOMS Shoes to children living in Liberia who didn’t have any. The shoes were provided by TOMS One for One™ program, where a new pair of shoes is given to a child in need for every pair of shoes sold.

Today at noon, ChildFund Corporate Relations Officer Marcia Roeder shares the remarkable journey of delivering shoes to children in need. Her presentation, which will be held at ChildFund’s International Office in Richmond, will detail the partnership with the philanthropic shoe company, the pictures of the children trying on their new shoes and ChildFund’s growing gift in-kind program.

“There were kids as far as the eye could see. We would call out the shoe sizes and the names and put them on their little feet. There were a lot of thank-yous and kids shaking our hands,” said Roeder.

TOMS Shoes mean more than just trendy footwear. A ChildFund study in 2010 estimated that 15 percent of school-aged children in developing countries have hookworm or another parasitic disease due to bare feet. Also, a pair of shoes means an opportunity to get an education, because they are a requirement to attend school.
