Richmond, Va. – January 15, 2010 – Mr. Paul O. Hirschbiel joins the ChildFund International Board of Directors for the first quarterly meeting of 2010. ChildFund’s 24-member board all share a specific expertise with the international child development organization.                                      

Born and raised in Virginia, Paul Hirschbiel moved to New York City where from 1984 to 1998 he was a general partner in a series of private equity funds. Hirschbiel was responsible for investments in the microcomputer, retail, and consumer products industries including such investments as Dell Computer, Staples, Egghead Software, Lechters, and FAO Schwarz. 

In 1998, Hirschbiel retired and moved to Virginia Beach with his wife Susan and their two children. Since that time he has become involved in numerous charitable and civic activities focused primarily around the needs of children. Hirschbiel’s primary focus is on building an early childhood initiative in Virginia so that all of Virginia’s youngest citizens can arrive at kindergarten healthy and ready to succeed. In this work he is Chairman of both The Virginia Early Childhood Foundation and Smart Beginnings South Hampton Roads. 

Hirschbiel currently serves as President of Eden Capital, a private investment company in Virginia Beach.

Hirschbiel holds a MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as a Dean Scholar, and a BA in Psychology at UNC as a Morehead Scholar.
