Mahider was born in Addis Ababa. She lives with her father, mother and two older siblings - a brother and sister. She is in primary school. Her father is a waiter and her mother is involved in petty trade. The language that is spoken in the household is Amharic. The family hopes to change their lives through an income generating activity. They are currently living in a house with only one room which is made of mud. Mahider lives in a congested neighborhood. The prevalence of disease is high in the area due to poor environmental sanitation practices. The nearby primary school and health center are in need to be supplied with educational inputs and standard medical equipment, respectively. The main reason that brought Mahider to ChildFund is the inability of her parents to provide for her basic needs with their current income status which is less than US$ 400 per year.
