Philip is a jovial boy who lives with his mother, sister, and grandmother in the Eastern part of Kenya. They live in a two-roomed brick-walled iron sheet-roofed house. They fetch water for domestic use from a communal tap at a fee. Philip’s family practices peasant farming where they grow maize and beans as food crops in a quarter-acre piece of land. Due to low rainfall and recurrent drought experienced in the area, the harvests are largely small. To supplement this, Philip’s mother engages in casual jobs within the village like washing clothes and tilling in their neighbors’ farms. These casual jobs are very rare and when found, they are poorly paid; thus, meeting the family’s basic needs is an uphill task. The family has an average annual income of below US$420, which hardly meets the needs of the family. Philip’s family learned of our program during a community meeting and approached the office for support. Philip is in school. Football is his favorite game, and he assists in collecting rubbish while at home. Your contribution towards his well-being and that of his family will be greatly valued.
