Veronica is a cheerful girl who lives with her parents, two brothers, and grandparents in the Eastern part of Kenya. The family lives in a three-roomed semi-permanent iron sheet-roofed house. They fetch water for domestic use from a well which is not protected thus exposing them to dangers of waterborne diseases. Veronica’s family practices peasant farming where they grow maize and beans as food crops for their subsistence. However, due to low rainfall experienced in the area, the harvests realized year in year out are generally small. To supplement this, her father works casually on their neighbours farms, like tilling and digging terraces. These jobs are scarce and poorly paid, thus bringing in very little income. The family has an average annual income of below USD $420, which hardly meets the needs of the family. Veronica’s family learned of our program during a community meeting and approached the office for support. Veronica is in school, and her performance is good. She enjoys Rope skipping with simple household chores. Your support will tremendously shape her life and that of the entire family.
