Edson is known to his family as Welemo. He lives with his parents in a small farming village located in the southeastern part of Mozambique, in Southern Africa. The region is characterized by hot and dry weather almost all year round. Edson and his family live in a self-built house with reed walls, a thatched roof, and a dirt floor. They do not have access to running water and electricity in the house. It happens that his parents are both unemployed, and they do subsistence farming in order to get by. Unfortunately, the living circumstance of this family is one of dire poverty. Their income cannot afford their basic needs. Edson is a willful child who bet on education as his assured future. He is attending elementary school and aspires to contribute to society by being a teacher in the future. The family has sought assistance from the ChildFund sponsorship program, where Edson will certainly receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition, and recreation. Edson helps out at home by grazing the goats. He is a smiley boy who enjoys spending time playing soccer with his friends.
