Lucinha is a cheerful girl who lives with her grandmother and brother in a small community located in the southeastern part of Mozambique. She attends school and her favorite subject is Portuguese. In future, she would like to be a teacher. Her grandmother is a subsistence farmer. She is hopeless because there is no rain and the soil is infertile to grow many crops. So, most of the times, they face hunger because it takes too long to get the harvest. Apart from that point, they harvest very little. They live in a self-built house with reed walls, a thatched roof and dirt floor. They use rudimentary sanitary facilities. They use a well in the area to get water. However this water is not completely safe to drink. It needs some purifiers which is something they do not have means to afford. Due to the circumstances, they drink this water exposing their health to several diseases. Lucinha participates in the program where she will receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition and recreation.
