Chathuka is an energetic young boy living in the Monaragala district of Sri Lanka with his parents, one brother, and two sisters. The six of them reside in a half-built house constructed with brick and cement walls, a cement floor, and an asbestos sheet roof. While they have access to electricity and basic sanitation facilities, they must fetch water daily from their protected well. Chathuka is an average student with a keen interest in learning science. He walks 1.5 km to school with his friends and spends his free time playing cricket and riding his bicycle. At home, he helps with cooking and cleaning chores. Both of his parents work as seasonal farmers, but their income is barely enough to meet the familys basic needs. Providing nutritious food and covering educational expenses is a constant struggle, placing significant strain on the household. A sponsor could bring meaningful change to Chathukas life by supporting his education, ensuring access to nutritious food, and helping his family achieve better living conditions and a more hopeful future.
