Glorinha is a very smart girl who lives in a community located in the southeastern part of Mozambique. She lives with her siblings in a self-built house with reed walls, a thatched roof and dirt floor. They do not have running water. They use well water for drinking and cooking their meals. This water sometimes causes them certain diseases. At night they use primitive kerosene lamps to have light because they have no electricity. They use rudimentary sanitary facilities. Glorinha attends primary school and her favorite subject is Portuguese. In future, she would like to be a teacher. Some of her siblings are subsistence farmers and they grow maize and cowpeas. Crops do not provide them the food because the farmers produce very little. They lack means which could help them improve the farming. Glorinha participates in the program where she will receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition and recreation. Her family will benefit from the project skills training and home improvement programs.
