Ian is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Eliane, in a rural community located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeastern Minas Gerais, which is a poor and drought-stricken region. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a concrete slab ceiling. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father pays a small child support and Eliane cleans houses when available; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Ian is cheerful and affectionate. He helps his mom by putting his toys away. He likes playing soccer along with his friends. He has a dog he is fond of. Ian attends a local public elementary school and his favorite subject is math. His big dream is to become a professional soccer player when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Ian and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
