Layla is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Davi and Elizabeth, in a small rural village located in the interior of the state of Ceara, which is a hot and remote region. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Davi works as a day laborer in agriculture when available and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Layla is shy, curious and playful. She helps her mom by washing the dishes and filling the bottles with water. Her favorite pastimes include playing tag and hide-and-seek. She has a dog and a cat she is fond of. Layla attends a local public elementary school and her favorite subject is Math. Her big dream is to become a veterinarian someday. The family is needy and through your support Layla and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
