Yada Paypan or Soda is a little poor girl who was born into a disadvantaged family that lacks of various opportunities in many ways. Soda lives with her mother, stepfather and younger brother. Her family earns the living as traditional farmer and works as wage earner during an off-farm season. They grow rice for home consumption on a small plot of their own farmland and their farming is much dependent upon forces of nature. If the rain was wrong, the crops might be damaged and insufficient for whole year consumption, her mother and stepfather would then look for a job to do in the village to feed the family. Most of the employments they could find are short-term with low payment, it is not easy to make ends meet and survive with uncertain circumstances and irregular income. This may not allow her family to ensure the girl a decent education and proper feeding which may risk her growth.
