Luis is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Raimunda, and with one brother, in a small rural village located in the interior of the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Raimunda works as a day laborer in agriculture and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Luis is cheerful, playful and intelligent. He helps his mom by making the beds and washing the dishes. He likes playing hide-and-seek along with his brother and friends. He has a dog he is fond of. Luis attends a local public elementary school and his favorite subject is math. His wish is to be a police officer when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Luis and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
