David is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Francisca; grandparents, Francisco and Maria, and with two younger brothers, one older sister, one aunt, and one cousin, in a small rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Both the grandparents are retired and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. David is cheerful and intelligent. He loves riding a bike. David attends a local public elementary school and his favorite subject is math. The family is needy and through your support David and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
