Jose is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Samara, and maternal grandfather, Miguel, in a slum area on the outskirts of a city located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his child. Miguel is unemployed at this time. Samara works as a cook and earns low wages. Jose is playful, affectionate and communicative. He helps his mom by shopping for small items at a nearby grocery store and putting his toys away. He likes playing soccer along with his friends. Jose attends a local public school and his favorite subject is Portuguese. His big dream is to become a professional soccer player when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Jose and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
