James is a brave young boy who lives with his parents and sister in the Eastern part of Kenya. The family lives in a three-roomed semi-permanent iron sheet-roofed house. They fetch water for domestic use from a communal well. James’s family practices peasant farming where they grow maize and beans as food crops for their subsistence. However, due to the low rainfall experienced in the area, the amounts of harvest are generally minimal. To supplement this, his father works casually on their neighbours farms, such as tilling and digging terraces. These jobs are scarce and poorly paid, thus bringing in very little income. The family has an average annual income of below US$420, which hardly meets the needs of the family. James family learned of our program during a community meeting and approached the office for support. James is in school and his performance is good. He enjoys playing football with his friends and assists in collecting rubbish while at home. Your support will go a long way in shaping his future life and that of his entire family.
