Grace is a cheerful girl who lives with her parents and two sisters in the Eastern part of Kenya. The family lives in a three-roomed semi-permanent iron sheet-roofed house. Her parents are not gainfully engaged, hence depend on casual jobs within the village to earn an income for the family, where her father works as a driver. These jobs are not always available, and if any are poorly paid. To supplement this, the family practices peasant farming where they grow maize and beans as food crops in a quarter-acre piece of land. The area experiences low rainfall many times, and this adversely affects the harvests year-round. Water for household consumption is obtained from a communal tap at a fee. The family’s average annual income is below US$420, which is insufficient to cater to their basic needs. During a community development meeting, Grace was proposed for enrollment into the program. Grace is in school, and her performance is good. Her favorite game is hide and seek, and she assists in washing utensils at home. You are highly welcome to join us in making a positive change in her life.
