Evan is a joyful boy who lives with his parents and two sisters in the Eastern part of Kenya. The family lives in a four-roomed permanent iron sheet-roofed house. They use firewood as fuel for cooking. His parents are not gainfully employed, hence depend on casual jobs to earn an income for the family, where his mother washes clothes for her neighbours and his father works as a driver. These jobs are rarely found and poorly paid at all. To supplement this, the family practices peasant farming where they grow maize and beans as food crops. The area experiences low rainfall, and this adversely affects the harvests year in year out. Water for household consumption is drawn from a communal borehole at a fee. The family’s average annual income is below US$420, which is insufficient to cater for their basic needs. During a community development meeting, the family was proposed for enrollment in the program. Evan is in school, and his performance is good. He enjoys a game of football and assists in looking after goats while at home. You are highly welcome to join us in brightening the future of both Evan and his family.
