Fatmata is a smart and intelligent girl who lives with her parents and siblings in a deprived community in the northern part of Sierra Leone. They live in a three bedroom mud bricks house with unpaved dirt floors. They access toilet facilities from the neighbouring house. Her father is a subsistence farmer and her mother sells assorted local foodstuffs in the local market. Their combined monthly income is about a US Dollars 190.00 which is inadequate to meet the basic needs of the family. Fatmata and her family lives about one kilometre away from school. They usually get their drinking water from a hand pump well which is about half a kilometre away. Fatmata is attending school and does very well in science subjects with the dream of becoming a nurse and help in the fight against infant mortality in her community. She is in good health and sleeps with her sisters on a locally made wooden bed with no proper beddings. With sponsorship, Fatmata will have a brighter future.
