Shanidu is a sweet and playful girl from the Monaragala District of Sri Lanka, a place known for its dry climate and farming lands stretching across the villages. She lives with her mother in a simple house owned by a relative, made with brick walls, a cement floor, and a clay tile roof. The home has electricity and a toilet, but water must be fetched from a neighbor’s well, which adds to their daily challenges. Her mother works as a seasonal farmer with an annual income of only $600, while her grandmother helps to look after Shanidu. Despite these hardships, Shanidu supports her mother by helping with small household tasks. She attends a primary school just 500 meters away, walking there with her mother each day, and her favorite hobby is playing. The family finds it difficult to provide nourishing meals and manage educational expenses, and being raised by a single mother makes life even harder. Sponsorship would provide stability, ensure Shanidu’s education, and give her a healthy and hopeful future. Supporting her is truly meaningful, as it would empower both Shanidu and her mother to overcome their struggles.
