Maria Elisa is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Carlos and Debora, and with one sister and one brother, in a rural community in the interior of the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is self-owned, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Electricity is available. Water is carried from an artesian well. Carlos works as a day laborer in agriculture when available and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Maria Elisa is cheerful and affectionate. She loves playing tag and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. Maria Elisa has a dog she is passionately fond of. Maria Elisa attends kindergarten and loves drawing and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Maria Elisa and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
