Lara is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her mother, Nonata, and with one brother, on the outskirts of a municipality located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Nonata receives a very small family allowance from the federal government, which is far from enough to meet basic needs. Lara is shy, cheerful, obedient and intelligent. She helps her mom by washing the dishes. She likes jumping rope along with her friends. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. Lara is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public elementary school and her favorite subject is Math. The family is needy and through your support Lara and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
