Rhana is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Francisco and Aline, and with one younger sister, on the outskirts of a small town located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is rented, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Francisco sells greens and vegetables (doing odd jobs) and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government; the total income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Rhana is calm, shy and intelligent. She helps her mom by making the beds and putting her toys away. Her favorite pastimes include playing tag and hide-and-seek. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. Rhana attends a local public elementary school and her favorite subject is Math. Her wish is to be a schoolteacher when she grows up. The family is needy and through your support Rhana and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
