Mariatou and her family live in a two-bedroom house in the rural community of Foni, in the west coast region of the Gambia. She has only one brother and is the youngest child in the family. Due to her age, she is not yet enrolled in ECD nursery school. She enjoys playing with dolls, singing, and dancing. Her parents are poor farmers who engage in food crop production activities during the rainy season, cultivating groundnut and coos as a source of income for the family. However, due to low rainfall and pesticide infection, the harvest is poor and cannot provide enough food and other necessities for the family. Therefore, she needs ChildFunds intervention to improve her living conditions.
