Walter is a talkative and friendly young boy living with both of his parents in the North Eastern region of Uganda. He enjoys engaging with those around him and has a naturally cheerful spirit, despite the difficult living conditions his family faces. The family lives on a small piece of land, with their homestead occupying one side and the other used for growing food crops, mostly for home consumption. Due to limited space, they are unable to expand their farming efforts to improve their livelihood. To supplement their income and meet basic needs, Walter’s parents often work for others by digging in neighbors’ gardens in exchange for food or small amounts of money. Their home is also in poor condition. The grass-thatched roofs are expensive to maintain and tend to rot quickly, especially during the rainy season, leading to constant leaks and discomfort. Walter dreams of attending school, but his family struggles to afford school supplies, uniforms, and other basic requirements. Without external support, his education n remains uncertain.
