Pedro is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Joao and Ana, in a rural community located in the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, rough cement flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. Joao works as a day laborer in agriculture and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Pedro is cheerful and affectionate. He likes playing with toy cars in the company of other kids his age. Pedro has recently been diagnosed as having autistic spectrum disorder; he is under treatment with specialists (phonoaudiologist, occupational therapist and psychologist). He attends nursery school and loves painting and coloring. The family is needy and through your support Pedro and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
