Richmond, Va. – ChildFund International today announced its official participation in the United Nations Global Compact, joining forces with more than 13,000 companies and non-governmental organizations around the globe to practice sustainable initiatives for the betterment of society. The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate citizenship initiative that maintains and advocates best practices on human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
“Beyond its alignment with ChildFund’s principles regarding human rights, supporting the UN Global Compact will also foster greater cooperation and innovation with like-minded businesses and organizations around the world,” said Anne Lynam Goddard, President and CEO of ChildFund International.
Based on ten principles of responsible business, the UN Global Compact emphasizes international cooperation, peace and development to advance the broader development goals of the United Nations and contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.
Along with health and education programs that help children realize their rights and achieve their full potential, ChildFund International also works to strengthen child protection systems that prevent and respond to child labor, hazardous working conditions and trafficking. At the community level, ChildFund works to foster a proactive approach with local law enforcement, to help recognize and proactively prevent trafficking. ChildFund also engages in direct interventions against the worst forms of child labor so that industry will no longer rely on child labor in its supply chains.
“We look forward to joining forces with fellow UN Global Compact members, increasing our multi-sector cooperation and knowledge-sharing, which are essential for solving today’s challenges,” Goddard added.
The UN Global Compact includes business participants and other stakeholders from civil society, labor and government located in 160 countries.
