Ester lives with her parents in Tigwilizane community in Luangwa district in Zambia. Her parents are local peasant farmers who grow maize, beans and pumpkins at a small scale mainly for home consumption with a little surplus for sale. The yields are sometimes affected by the droughts and or floods depending on weather conditions in for each particular farming season due to unpredictable as the areas in in a valley. Sometimes her father makes some reeds mats which he sells in the community in order to raise some income other needful commodities. Ester attends preschool at a nearby school. However, the familys annual income is approximately $300 and not adequate to meet all the familys needs. Esters health is good, and she likes playing ball games with her friends.
