Nayra is a little girl who lives with her parents in a community located on the outskirts of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, in southern Africa. The region is characterized by a hot and humid climate most of the year. The neighborhood where the family lives is a cramped slum whose livelihood is based on street vending. Their self-built house is made of concrete blocks sprinkled with cement, a zinc sheet roof, a rough concrete floor, with electricity and running water services. The surrounding fence is made of thorny climbing plants. Nayras daily life is marked by sacrifices, as neither of his parents has a formal job to guarantee a steady income capable of providing him with stable food and nutrition. Her father is a handyman and her mother is a street vendor, whose income is uncertain and unable to meet even the most pressing household needs. Nayra is still a minor child of no school age. To relieve the childs unfortunate situation, the family has sought help from ChildFunds sponsorship program, where Nayra will certainly receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition, and recreation.
