Mariama is a Mandinka by tribe and she is being raised a Muslim. She lives in the village of Bintang with both her parents. Both her parents are poor farmers who depend on farming for their living. The money they earned is not enough to meet the basic needs of the family. Food is scarce and clothing poses a big problem. Her father has to take care of a large extended family. The meals they eat are to be shared among many in a big bowl. The house in which she lives is small and she shares a bed with her grandmother who is also living with them. Our sponsorship would help provide food, clothing, better shelter and medical facilities in times of ill health. Mariama is a pleasant girl who gets on well with other children at their school. She is very interested in learning. She helps her mother at home to do household chores. Her health is fairly good.
