Sidica is a girl who lives with her mother and grandmother in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique in southern Africa. The region is characterized by a tropical climate that is hot and humid most of the year. The neighborhood where Sidica lives is a cramped slum where the main activity is street trading. Their house, which is self-built, is made of concrete blocks, covered with some old, dripping zinc sheets. They have access to running water and electricity services. Sidica has lived in poverty with her grandmother since the day her father disowned the child at birth while her mother was still of school age. Her mother, along with her grandmother, is a street vendor. Sidica is a child who has not yet reached school age. Sidica enjoys playing hopscotch and jumping rope, as well as helping with household chores. Not to mention her daily struggles, Sidica is a healthy and playful child. The grandmother has sought assistance from the ChildFund program, where she will certainly receive support in the areas of health, education, nutrition, and recreation.
