Renan is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his parents, Jose and Simoni, and with a sister and a brother, in a rural community in the interior of the state of Ceara. Their simple home has hollow-brick walls, dirt floors and a clay-tiled roof. It is self-built and has no sanitary facilities of any kind. Water is carried from a well. Jose works as a day laborer in agriculture when available and the family receives a small family allowance from the federal government. Renan is obedient, communicative and intelligent. He runs small errands for his mom. He likes playing with balls and toy cars in the company of other kids his age. He is fond of animals, especially dogs and cats. Renan is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public preschool and loves drawing and painting. He says he will become a herdsman when he grows up. Through your support Renan and his family will have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, education and nutrition.
