Rugie is a girl who is living with her parents in a village surrounded by many trees and different fruits in the North of Sierra Leone. The family dwells in a mud brick house roofed with old zinc. Rugie and parent sleep on a local stick bed with dried grass mattress and thick clothes for covering under an old mosquito net. The village where Rugie lives lacks medical facilities. The parent of Rugie, lactating mothers, pregnant women including those ready to give birth travel a long distance to access medical attention when the need arises. The parents grow pepper and groundnuts for food at home and sell some to get money to take care of the family. The Father also burn charcoal as additional source of income. The family manages to survive on an annual income of around US$327 which is not enough to cater for their basic needs. They share a bowl of rice twice a day. Rugie is in good health, simply dressed and doing fine at present. I believe she will be able to escape this line of excess poverty and achieve her dreams if fortunate to be sponsored.
