Joan is a bright and energetic young girl living with her parents and siblings in the North Eastern region of Uganda. Her family resides in a modest two-roomed grass-thatched hut made of mud walls and wattle, which they repair annually to keep it habitable. Joan has recently embarked on her educational journey and attends a government-aided primary school within the community. Her favorite subject is English, and she enjoys learning and interacting with her teachers and classmates. During her free time, Joan loves playing dodgeball with her friends and peers ,a game that brings her joy and helps her build friendships. The family relies entirely on small-scale farming to survive. They grow staple crops like maize, beans, cassava, sweet potatoes, and vegetables. While much of what they grow is used to feed the family, any surplus is sold to earn a small income. Unfortunately, over-cultivation and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns have led to a significant decline in crop yields.
