Sandaru is a little boy who loves to play ‘house’. He is the only child of his parents and they simply adore him. He can put a smile on anyone’s face. Sometimes a little mischievous and sometimes sweet – there is never a dull moment with little Sandaru. Sandaru’s mother is a house wife. She takes care of Sandaru and attends to the household chores. His father is the sole breadwinner of the family and generates much needed income for the family. He is a farmer and his annual income is approximately USD550. Sandaru and his parents live in their partially constructed house located in the Moneragala district of Sri Lanka. The walls of the house are made of cement block stones, concrete flooring and clay tiled roofing. They do not have a properly constructed toilet on the property or enjoy electricity supply. Sandaru’s family cannot afford to complete the construction of their house because they live in poverty. Even the smallest intervention from a kind-hearted stranger will go a long way for this struggling family and it will give Sandaru a fighting chance to reach for a bright future.
